I was concerned about the surgery. Dr. Cohen explained exactly what was going to happen, why each step was necessary, and what each step achieved. I asked several questions. I expected 'yes,' or 'no,' answers. Instead, to my pleasant surprise, he took time to give in-depth answers without jargon -- when he used a term he could see I hadn't heard before, he stopped and explained it without being condescending. I ran out of questions. I felt much better about the surgery. The surgery itself felt very efficient and quick. He explained what he was doing and why. I expected something closer to a dental procedure, where the drill winds up followed by lots of unexplained activity and some pain. Dr. Cohen's dialog put me at ease, and I wasn't startled at any point by pain, or the actions of the procedure. I have had many medical procedures. I am also a guy. What im most grateful for is his instruction that I need to be more proactive than just my yearly checks and using sunblock. I was terrified when I went in for my first Mohs surgery with Dr Cohen, because was afraid I would have a terrible scar on my fact. By the time we had clean edges, there was a hole the size of a nickel on my forehead. When Dr Cohen sewed me back together, my eyebrow was raised far above my eye, and I thought I would never look normal again. But things turned out better then I ever imagined. Dr Cohen used super-fine thread which made it so there was barely a line to see, and my eyebrow line relaxed back down after about six months. Now you cannot even tell it was done. Dr Cohen pays great attention to the smallest detail so that he leaves the least amount of evidence that you had surgery. Since that first surgery, I have had two more Mohs surgeries performed by Dr Cohen, and there is no trace of those on my face either Dr Cohen is very kind and gracious, and it brings me great comfort to know that he will always do his very best to leave no trace of my facial surgery. Although it has been a few years since my last Mohs surgery, Dr Cohen is my favorite doctor because of his exceptional talent and gentle bedside manner. I am so glad that I found Dr Cohen!!

I had seen another doctor for basal cell carcinoma. The other doctor preformed a "Mohs procedure" on my face. A year later it came back in the same place. They biopsied that site again. For the second time the results were basal cell carcinoma. They did another "Mohs" prodedure. One year later, the 3rd biopsy in the same site came back as basal cell carcinoma. I asked for my medical records, and transferred to Dr. Joel Cohen. He preformed the 3rd Mohs procedure. The area has been clear for 3 years now. I am forever grateful for the care that I receive from Dr. Cohen. He is an expert in skin care, and we are blessed that he is in the Denver area!!!!

During my first vist, Dr. Cohen explained what needed to be done in great detail and scheduled the surgery. Two surgery's were required plus a skin graft. It has only been 3 months since my last surgery, and you can barely see that anything was done. If you need a dermatologist, then I highly recommend Dr. Cohen and his staff. I have been a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner for over 20 years and I would recommend him to my friends, family, and patients with out hesitancy based on my positive experience. My initial Mohs procedure was performed in the middle of my face and the incision needed to be a little over an inch long. Of course, this news was very traumatic being concerned about the cosmetic appearance. Dr. Cohen was excellent at explaining the procedure and making me feel comfortable. I was offered laser to reduce the appearance of the scar but not made to feel like I had to or needed to perform laser. Laser is about $200 per session. I found after 6 months that my scar was healing so well, I did not feel I needed it. Both my friends and family really cannot see the scar in the middle of my face with or without make up. I am very thankful that I have the opportunity to be under the care of such a skilled surgeon who also has a heart for his patients. Also, from the receptionist to his assistants, they are very knowledgeable and caring. I hope you never have to experience a Mohs procedure but if you do, I would recommend one of the best.

I was confident and felt safe moving ahead with my surgery. I had Mohs surgery done in August of 2013. Dr. Cohen was patient with my thoughts of being frightened and nervous with the whole procedure. Dr. Cohen took his time in rebuilding my nose and talked with me when I had questions throughout the procedure. My basil cancer is gone and no one can tell I had surgery unless I mention it.

Well, it all started about 8 years ago, with the removal of Melanoma off of half of my nose. And I will never forget the excitement in Joel's voice when he called me at my hotel to tell me it was all gone and that my plastic surgeon was waiting for me to put me back together!! Since that time, I have seen Joel every 3-4 months and I truly appreciate all his care for me. Say hi to Goldie! I love you both!
