I am a heavy athlete and compete in the Scottish Highland Games. I injured my neck by compressing two disks, This left my left arm numb and almost useless. My Doctor laid it all out for me and we talked options between Fusing and Disk implants. After deciding our course of action and getting the required approval. The Surgery was scheduled and my doctor replaced my disk's with implants.
I could not be happier; I got my left arm back and most importantly the nerve pain is gone. I have my grip strength back and I can compete in the Games I love.
My experience has been outstanding, and could not possibly ask for a better outcome.

Coming to Pacific Spine Specialists was the best choice I have ever made. Dr. Keenen is a very understanding and knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon. He took the time to get to know me and to explain all of my options, surgical and non-surgical, in a way that helped me understand what exactly the injury was and how it could be helped. He had me try a few non-surgical things first but when they didn't fix my back pain I decided to get my spine fused. I have had back pain my whole life and after the car accident it was so bad that I couldn't walk, sit, or even sleep. Even with all of this going on I was not rushed to make any decision as Dr. Keenen was very patient with me and gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision. I choose to get my spine fused and it was the best decision I have ever made. I wish I had done it years ago. Not only am I back to living my life but I am better than I ever was before.

I hauled my carcass in to Dr. Keenen's office at the recommendation of my primary care provider a few weeks after being sent to the ER with a severely herniated L5-S1 disc that I had been neglecting for months. Two days later I was in surgery, and one day after that I was up and walking.
Dr. Keenen explained everything to me in ways I could understand and my family and I appreciated his straightforward approach. The surgery was quick, the recovery was mostly easy and fairly painless, and I was able to quickly get back on with my life.
One of the interesting things for me has been those closest to me telling me how much more energetic and happier I seem. Being in pain for months had really ground down my mental health as well as my physical, and being able to do basic tasks - driving, walking, cooking, playing music - without being somewhere between "uncomfortable" and "in searing, white hot pain" is something I will never take for granted again.

Started out with loss of strength in right arm, numbness in index and middle finger and extreme pain in right arm. Had to continuously be on pain killers in order to accomplish anything during the day and pain killers at night in order to get some sort of sleep. Surgery never seems like it can be a great experience but with Dr. Keenen and his staff it was a very good and comfortable experience. After the surgery i regained feeling in my fingers and pain went away. i was able to go back to flight school and accomplish all my ratings required to become a professional pilot. Surgery with Dr. Keenen has helped me continue on with my dreams without any restrictions. I highly recommend it if anyone is on the fence whether to go through with it or not.

My experience was excellent with Dr Keenen and his staff. The surgery was successful in every measurement and I can say after one year that I am 95% to full capacity with some minor residual pain in the trauma area. i expect a full recovery this calendar year 2019 and plan to discontinue the use of Tylenol for some of the residual pain.

I am now 8 months removed from a three level cervical fusion. Prior to the surgery I was at wit's end in terms of the daily nagging pain in my neck and shoulders. Physical Therapy and accupuncter helped but not to any significant degree. Six months after lumbar surgery by another doctor, Dr. Keenen correctly diagnosed why I was still not recovering, due to a bone spur, which was then operated on by the other doctor. Almost a year later I still was having lower back pain and again Dr. Keenen quickly pursued this issue, resulting in decompression surgery. I am now finally on the road to full recovery after years of pain and loss of function.

Let me tell a quick story of my spine and back problems (i used to have). When i was 14 i skateboarded off a roof multiple times.. After years of doctors visits and chiropractic care for 3 years about 2 to 3 times a week. The pain would get better than worse again. continuing to skateboard and also be a carpentar i was in alot of pain. A couple months ago I started having low back and nerve pain in my right leg. I saw the doctor, he ordered an MRI and saw me shortly after. I wanted to try non-surgical tx first so tried a tapering dose of steroids which helped some and then I needed more so had a back injection. In the meantime the nerve pain grew by leaps and bounds until I got up early one morning because of pain shooting down my leg that was worse than anything I've ever felt. At this point I couldn't stand so crawled to the bedroom to wake my husband. Then I collapsed on the floor in pain. We called Dr. Keenen and he got me in immediately. “A new beginning with a healthy cervical spine”

Dr. Timothy Keenen diagnosed and treated my relatively severe cervical condition and left arm radicular pain with a cervical discectomy and three-level fusion this past August. It has now been 8 months and I was released from treatment today. Relative to pain, the relief from the arm pain was almost immediate. The neck pain also was largely gone after surgery, however, I did have a lot of lower cervical l and trapezial soft-tissue pain after surgery for a few months; kind of like a mild aching. I used a ice and heat and stretching and resting and Tylenol and eventually it has subsided for the most part. Having this surgery was pretty scary for me but I am so glad that I went through with it because it literally has given me a new lease on life. No more crackling neck pain and aching all the time , or wanting to take pain medication. My headaches have greatly subsided. I really feel pretty darn good as far as my neck goes. I saw Dr. Keenen for a SI joint fusion. I had been in pain for several years and the pain was unbearable. I could not sleep at night, could not stand at work, and had gain about 25lbs b/c I couldn't walk daily. I was in constant, debilitating pain from bilateral sacroiliac joint dysfunction resulting from a prior extensive lumbar fusion. Dr. Keenen and his staff accurately diagnosed my problem, dealt with my obstinate insurance company, controlled my pain and arranged for surgery. The surgery, a bilateral SI joint minimally invasive fusion, was performed. The results of the surgery have been life altering; my pain is almost completely reduced and i am now able to live my life, which includes numerous activities i had recently had to abandon due to pain. “From debilitating pain to pain free”

I came to Dr Keenan with severe pain in my lower back and buttocks and tingling down my legs and into my feet. I had tried PT and acupuncture and both seemed to make my pain worse. I couldn't walk without pain and had to give up normal activities including golf and working out at the gym. Dr Keenen read the MRI I had taken several months prior and also ordered xrays to make his diagnosis. He diagnosed me with spinal stenosis and some scoliosis, and recommended decompression surgery and fusion (using my own bone) to release the nerve and stabilize my vertebrae. He told me I would have immediate relief and be 90% pain free. Four weeks following surgery I was totally pain free. At 8 weeks post-op I am going to PT to strengthen my muscles and increase flexibility, and expect soon to be able to golf and work out at the gym. At this point I can do all housework and work in my garden. I only wish I had decided for the surgical option sooner as it would have saved me months of pain.

Amazingly positive experience. To maker a long story short, I finally ended up with the right group of doctors, with Dr. Keenen being the last and most important of the puzzle pieces. I had lost a lot of use of my left arm, hand and fingers over the course of a 6 month period. Best decision I made in a long time. Dr. Keenen explained all of my options in detail and I chose to let him go ahead and fix it. As soon as the anesthesia was out of my system, I instantly could feel that things were better.
I had a double disk removal and replacement with a titanium plate installed across 3 vertebrae in my neck.

“Neck disk replacement was absolutely the right decision for me!”

I had a ski accident in January of 2018 and had been misdiagnosed by a physical therapist of having a torn bicep (my arm had been going numb). I decided to call Dr. Keenen since he had worked on my lower back from a previous injury and successfully got me back into life. After an MRI it was obvious that I had a massively bulging disc in my neck and it needed to be fixed as soon as possible or I would sustain permanent damage. Once diagnosis was determined, Dr. Keenen wanted me to fix it within 2 weeks. There was no waiting around once we knew what was wrong. Surgery went exactly as he had explained, in detail. Post surgery went better than I had planned and was home the day of surgery and wanting to move around the day after! I was especially glad we chose the artificial disc replacement, as I now have complete range of motion and didn't lost any movement in my neck. Six months after surgery I was skiing again and a year after I'm back paddle boarding, kayaking and enjoying life!

This is my 4th surgery that Dr. Keenen has performed and I couldn't be happier with him and his PA's! He had a mess to clean up with my first surgery from another doctor and I would not let anyone else touch my back!!! My multiple surgeries are due to degenerative disc decease and arthritis. He has always been conservative and has not suggested surgery till I could not deal with the pain any longer. My last surgery in April my pain was gone the day of surgery!

Without the consciousness and meticulous care of Dr. Keenen and his staff I would not be enjoying life again - or be writing this review. When I first saw Dr. Keenen I couldn't hold my back up straight due to the stenosis in my spine and damaged discs. I also had tremendous pain that prevented me from doing the most mundane of chores. While today I'm still recovering, the pain is nearly gone and I have very few limitations on what I can do. I thank them for having given me a second chance to life! I had been living with lower back pain for 13 years. I was 77 yrs old when my back just gave out. I was referred to Dr. Keenen by a friend who is also a patient. I was at the point that pain was out of hand and needed help.I was comfortable with both meetings with Dr. Keenen and his PA's.

I have seen Dr. Keenen and his team for two spinal issues. I was in a horrible accident back in the late '90's and my lower spine continued to degenerate to where I needed a fusion. That was a huge success and while there was still some back pain, I was at the level I needed to be to live my life. 5 years go by and I hurt myself again. The worst possible pain down my leg that completely shut down my life... Dr. Keenen put me through some diagnostic injections to make sure we knew where the problem was, he knew already, but wanted to be sure. A simple decompression surgery to remove a bunch of material had me walking with no leg pain in a matter of 2 weeks. 6 months later and I am back to baseline. Go see these folks. They are pros!

My car was rear ended in 2011. I felt burning down my arms and received a call from Dr Keenen who saw my MRI and let me know that C5 was injured and would require surgery. The following Monday I was schedule at Meridian hospital and the surgery was spot on, giving me better range (once healed) in my neck than I had pre-surgery.
In 2017, while waiting on a red light, a car rear ended my car causing injury to C7. Dr Keenen was able to do the surgery/repair and give me my life back. I cannot say enough about his professionalism and skill. I will highly recommend Dr Keenen to anyone I know.

I went with Dr.Keenen as he also had done some surgery for a family member, he was very precise and had good explanations for the type of surgery i was going to have.
