Our son was diagnosed with Witkop Syndrome, a form of Ectodermal Dysplasia -- he is missing nearly all of his adult teeth and the ones he had were small and misshapen. Dr. Gurney, along with a local oral surgeon has given us new hope! He is now 16 and has a semi-permanent solution that finally allows him to smile, talk and eat normally for the first time in several years. When he is fully grown, we will then complete the final stage of his implants and implant supported bridges. I was hesitant to start down this path. I knew it would be hard since I had worked in the dental field and knew somewhat what was involved. When Dr. Gurney sat down with me at first, he gave me several options and it was a struggle to decide which way to go since the way I knew I should go was going to involve many months of procedures and expense. But through it all, Dr. Gurney and his staff were patient and understanding of my hesitation. Sometimes I felt like I was a huge burden, but they assured me that I wasn't. We kept moving in the direction I needed to go and although we ran into some unforeseen problems with my case, I always felt like Dr. Gurney would make it right. I felt like I was in good hands. I felt like I could be honest and he would listen to my concerns. I appreciate the patience Dr. Gurney and staff endured during this long emotional journey of mine. I am extremely happy with the results and feel like I look how I imagined I would look after the many months it took to get everything the way I wanted. My first visit was for a consultation. I was given all the different treatment options with the pros and cons of each. When we started the process, each step was explained to me and they answered all my questions. Dr Gurney was so patient and kind throughout all my visits. He consulted old pictures of my original smile and teeth and worked to replicate them. He truly is an artist in sculpting the teeth and also has an eye for keeping the shape of the jaw and face. When I had to make a decision on dentures I went to my regular dentist. I thought that he would be okay. How wrong I was. I wish I had did a little research in the beginning it probably would have saved me a lot of money. I called Dr. Gurney because my teeth were not fitting right and after 8 weeks was still not able to eat anything except soft foods. Dr. Gurney gave an exam and helped fix part of the problem. I would advise anybody making this decision to come see him first.
