I treat all patients as I would treat members of my family. I carefully listen to the patient’s history and do a meticulous examination of the affected hand, wrist, elbow and/or shoulder. Once I formulate a diagnosis, I consider all of the treatment options. Although I am a surgeon, many patients have problems that are amenable to non- operative treatment which includes therapy, splints, exercise and medication.
For those problems that do not respond to conservative treatment, I bring more than 35 years of surgical experience to the operating room to perform the simplest and most specific procedure to correct the problem. Post-operative care often involves hand and physical therapy which is critical to optimize the result of surgery.

I came to Dr. Glickel with an injury that had been missed by other doctors. Dr. Glickel figured out the problem and performed the surgery. I completely recovered use of my hand and totally normal functionality. “Dr Glickel removed a metal plate in my arm and grafted a new flexor tendon in my thumb that had ruptured.”

Dr. Glickel is not only the most skilled hand surgeon one could ask for but he is also the kindest. He listened thoughtfully to all my questions and concerns and always took the time to explain things patiently and clearly until he was sure I understood. And I asked many questions! He guided me through the post surgery physical therapy with follow-up visits to make sure I was progressing as planned. I am so grateful to him for giving me back the use of my thumb!

“Wonderful experience - would recommend Dr. Glickel!”

I had to see Dr. Glickel with a cyst on a pointer finger. I had previously been to another doctor who had unsuccessfully treated the cyst. Dr. Glickel was quick to diagnose that surgery was required. He thoroughly explained what the surgery would entail as well as the expected recovery. The surgery facility and staff were extremely efficient and kind and the surgery went off without a hitch. “Superb hand surgeon, great communicator”

I came to Dr. Glickel because my left hand dropped things all the time. I thought: arthritis. Wrong. I'd torn a ligament in my thumb in a fall. My right hand had pain & numbness in the thumb & two fingers & an atrophied muscle at the base of the thumb. Arthritis? Wrong. Carpal tunnel. He explained what he could & couldn't do, I had reconstructive surgery on my left thumb &, 6 months later, CT surgery on my right hand. Both hands work perfectly now. I don't have arthritis.

“When I came in to see Dr. Glickel my elbow was in extreme pain, he made it better, and 2 months later the pain is gone.”

My right elbow was in constant pain for over one month and I was diagnosed with "golfer's elbow". I carry a lot of heavy things and apparently my tendon became inflamed. I made an appointment with Dr. Glickel, he examined me, described my condition in easy to understand terms, pointed out the range of motions that aggravated my condition and then sent me to physical therapy. I was able to change the way that I use my right arm on a daily basis, and 2 months later the pain is gone.

“I have total trust in Dr. Glickel”

This is my second surgical experience with Dr. Glickel, the first was for a trigger finger on the same right hand, index finger Since then Dr. Glickel has treated my arthritic middle finger with steroid shots When my finger was swollen and often painful Dr. Glickel suggested surgery. All went well and we just removed the dressing from my surgical procedure. It is important to believe that one's doctor is not only a nice human being but also a superb surgeon, which is how I view Dr. Glickel.

“Reassuring, professional, knowledgeable, caring, artistic”

I have been treated by Dr. Glickel for years for basal joint arthritis of the right thumb. I was very reluctant to get surgery because my hobby is guitar playing. However, when the pain reached the point where I could no longer play at at all I had no choice. The internet was filled with scary tales; pain, suffering and loss of use. Dr. Glickel was reassuring.
After 12 weeks, I began to start playing again. Today, at 16 weeks I am back to practicing 45 minutes before I need to rest.

I had a wrist fracture earlier in the year. I went to see Dr. Glickel right away for the needed surgery. It has been a 3 month process. He has been very helpful and willing throughout the recovery process. Appointments don't feel rushed at all and he goes over all the details and answers my questions thoroughly. “Incredible doctor, incredible surgeon, incredible recovery”

Dr Glickel is not only warm, knowledgeable, and a good communicator, but he is also brilliant at what he does. After my finger surgery, my physical therapist told me that she had never seen a patient recover so quickly. Dr. Steven Glickel has taken wonderful care of my wrist following a fracture sustained in mid-October 2018. His immediate response to my injury was to allow the healing process to progress, and then determine if subsequent surgery was required for an optimal outcome. Two weeks later, surgery was necessary and my new plate facilitates a full range of motion 9 weeks post-op. If you need a hand surgeon, look no further. Dr. Glickel deserves more than 5 stars!

“Great Surgeon and great office”

Found Dr. Glickel online with a nagging pain in the wrist and he was very methodical and took time to diagnose correctly with out rushing into unnecessary procedures. “beyond my wildest dreams”

i was so scared after falling down a flight of stairs and breaking...shattering...my elbow and breaking my wrist. Dr Glickel
repaired it and i have almost full range of motion today, just 4 months later. other surgeons wanted to replace it which would have meant a lot of restriction in my life but Dr Glickel listened and understood how my lifestyle would have been very compromised with an elbow replacement. He was always kind and patient and I never once felt rushed on any of my follow up appointments. His staff was just as considerate and kind as he was. And don't get me started on how his colleague, Dr Adam Cohen, treated me and helped me with my back which I also broke (the sacrum) in the same fall. I love these doctors!

“I shouldn't have procrastinated!”

I had cubital tunnel and carpel tunnel decompression surgeries performed by Dr. Glickel on the same date. In my opinion the surgeries couldn't have gone better. Dr. Glickel prepared me well for what to expect during the operations and what kind of recovery to anticipate. Dr. Glickel was clear and precise in explaining the nature of my complaints and quelled any concern I may have had about the surgical repair. He accurately described what I could expect following the surgery and happily, both procedures provided the pain relief I had hoped for. My only regret is that I didn't consult with him sooner!

Dr Glickel and his staff have been very responsive and supportive navigating a difficult procedure. They were able to schedule my surgery quickly, which minimized my time out on disability. Their office and out patient facilities are excellent. The one drawback it the wait time, especially during follow up visits. But this is worth it to me for the high level of care that I received.

“Absolutely the Best Experience Possible”

I came to Dr. Glickel for my De Quervain's tenosynovitis a couple of years ago. He diagnosed it and gave me an injection in my wrist that was supposed to allievate the pain for about six months, but it actually was two years before it flared up again. When I returned to Dr. Glickel, he explained that he could either give me another shot, which would provide temporary results, or perform surgery to correct the problem permanently. I opted for the surgery. Dr. Glickel explained everything involved thoroughly, answered every question thoughtfully, and scheduled the procedure for the following week. Pre-surgery, he explained every step of what he would be doing and what I could expect immediately after, and in the ensuing weeks and months. In just two months, there is only a trace amount of discomfort, a small fading scar from the incision, and the De Quervain's is permanently gone. Dr. Glickel does amazing work, and I wish all doctors had his patient and professional bedside manner.

I am extremely grateful for Dr. Glickel. He is an expert in his field. When I severed two tendons in my hand I was not sure what the future looked like for its mobility. He showed true concern and never made me feel like he was in a hurry. At nearly two months post-op my hand is on track to be 100% and the scars are healing beautifully. “Superb New York Hand Surgeon”

I have eight years of patient experience with Dr. Glickel. He has treated me successfully for arthritis of the left, and ultimately the right thumb. An initial conservative approach with effective local steroid injections was very helpful but eventually surgery became necessary. After post-operative physiotherapy I regained full and painless use of both hands to the extent that my fine movement control was preserved, I could use both heavy power and hand held tools and could play the piano with an octave hand reach and even accomplish ninths and tenths. Dr. Glickel demonstrates outstanding medical judgement and surgical skills. He is empathetic, honest, dryly humorous and welcoming. His training by two founding giants in the field of hand surgery combined with his 30+ years of clinical experience make him a premium go-to hand surgeon in New York City. I recommend his practice as top notch, 5 Star, a 100% operation!

“I always felt like Dr.Glickel had my best interests at heart and had the highest level of expertise to treat mme.”

This was a very long process. 10 months from injury. I was not ready for surgery at the outset and Dr. Glickel waited with me to see if the humerous would heal on its own. When after 4 months it was not aligned, we decided on surgery. I appreciated the indulgence to wait on surgery till it was clear the bone would not heal properly on it own. I also appreciated the recommendation to Lang Therapy who is helping in my recovery. Everyone in Dr.Glickel's office was kind, patient and well trained for their role.

“Solution found after 3 years, kind and effective”

Dr. Glickel listened to my 3 years of living with pain after a surgery from another Dr. He was kind and effective in finding a solution to those pain!
I was part of every step and everything was very well explained, and I felt secure to ask any question I wanted to ask. I am now pain free and the follow-up is scheduled to check that everything runs smoothly on the long run.

“as painless as a broken wrist can be”

I could not have had a better experience fixing and recovering from a broken wrist. Dr. Glickel was clear in explaining my choices and recovery timelines. “The best hand surgeon. Period. World class knowledge.”

I originally met Dr. Glickel when came to him to get a second opinion adfter my injured my right hand. He examined me and noted I did not ned surgery while the first surgeon had recommened surgery. Such is the nature of Dr. Glickel who truly cares for his patient and that is his one true goal. Lo and behold after few months my hand had completely healed (confirmed with CT scan)

This time I came to Dr. Glickel after I fractured my right hand. He performed surgery and I am all healed now. The entire process was so great and smooth. The full care team is highly knowledgable and amazing. Cant thank you enough for making my right (dominant) hand good as new again.

“My experience was great, Dr. Glickel understood what was causing pain in my wrist and thumb and conducted a successful surgery and recovery plan.”

After severe pain in my right thumb and wrist caused by an old injury, Dr Glickel proposed that I get surgery to reconstruct my thumb (which was out of place and needed to have a metal rod previously added removed) and reduce pain in my wrist area. Dr Glickel conducted a complicated surgery with a long recovery plan that was extremely successful. After 2.5 years of pain in the area, my hand finally feels normal.

“Unbelievable success in treating a years-old broken wrist”

After letting a broken wrist sit for over 10 years, I saw Dr. Glickel when the pain became unbearable while working out. He diagnosed me with a "Scaphoid non-union advanced collapse," or "SNAC'd" wrist. Apparently the bone had broken way back when and never healed right, and I was developing arthritis through the joint. He suggested a surgery, the Malerich procedure, that would remove the affected bone; he would perform the surgery himself.

The surgery was comfortable and easy. After getting the surgery, my recovery went exactly as he described, and he stayed available at all hours to answer any questions. After weeks of follow-ups, my wrist is now starting to improve over its pre-surgery condition -- I can start doing some push-ups for the first time in years!

I can't thank Dr. Glickel enough. Without his suggestion, I would have ended up getting a wrist fusion, with a significantly worse range of motion and harder recovery.

“Dr Glickel is a master at his craft and has great skills at making the patient comfortable.”

When i saw Dr Glickel after injuring my thumb, i was in tremendous pain and he was able to immediately make me comfortable. He was quick with his decision to perform the needed surgery and even took time to assist the office staff to ensure all went well for the urgent appointment.

“surgery produced immediate positive results”

Severe aches & pain, pins & needles, trigger finger and loss of feeling in both hands brought me to see Dr Glickle. He felt carpal tunnel surgery was the answer. I was slightly negative towards the surgery at first. I opted for shots of cortizone which turned out to be temporary. After agreeing to the surgery, one hand at a time, one after the other, I was convinced as the original problems as explained above were gone immediately, and after a slight recovery, hand strength returned to normal

“Excellent Surgeon!”

Dr. Glickel operated on my hand 5 and 14 years ago. When I needed surgery on my other hand recently, I came back to Dr. Glickel even though I had moved 500 miles away because I trust him and I feel comfortable with him. All aspects of my treatment were excellent--visits before the surgery, the surgery itself, and follow up visits. You might have to wait a little bit at office visits because Dr. Glickel takes enough time with you (and the previous patents). He is an excellent dr. and surgeon.

“A pleasant outcome for an unpleasant injury”

The diagnosis was pretty clear before I came in, I had a broken wrist, but the evaluation and explanation of what needed to be done felt thorough and professional. I had surgery a week later (accommodating both our schedules) and even when I panicked that night from the severe pain the on-call doctor was able to calmly help over the phone at 3am. After that, the healing process was pretty smooth.

“I have had an excellent recovery”

Dr. Glickel is an excellent doctor. His honesty was encouraging, making sure I understood that nerve recovery is slow requiring patience and hard work.
He has continued overseeing my progress since I first saw him in Nov. after dislocating my elbow. After seeing me weekly and by weekly for months, he surgically released the scar tissue on my damaged nerve and sent me to occupational therapy.
After months of therapy and Dr. visits, I can do almost very activity I had lost. I am very grateful

I really had no idea what I was getting into when a Orthopedist recommended surgery for two trigger fingers which had literally left me without the ability to use my left hand. Dr. Glickel was able to restore the hand giving it far more mobility than prior to his surgery. As the healing process continues, I am confident that every day the hand is getting stronger and more useful. Dr. Glikel also recommended an excellent Occupational Therapist whose entire face lit up when I mentioned his name.

Dr. Glickel is absolutely wonderful. I can't say enough kind words about him both personally and professionally. After one failed thumb surgery I was dreading doing it again and feeling quite anxious about it. He spent extra time talking to me about it both over the telephone and in the office. And from the moment I got out of surgery I could already tell that my procedure and care was far superior to that which I received during my first surgery at a local, prestigious hospital. When I injured by wrist mid April and was told by ER physicians I needed surgery, I turned to my brother in law who was the chairman of Anesthesiology at Universithy of Penn. Dr. Glickel is amazing. I went to him because I had ulnar nerve damage to the point I didn't have any muscle in my right hand and I couldn't feel anything in my little and ring finger. Dr. Glickel brought back my hand by performing surgery and was always straight forward with me and my family about the expectation of the surgery. I am so happy with the outcome of the surgery.

I came to Dr. Glickel somewhat accidentally, but I am SO glad that I did! I found him after making an appointment with OrthoManhattan for a fractured ulna, but being unsure which doctor specifically to make an appointment with; they quickly directed me to an appointment with Dr. Glickel. He immediately took the time to not only diagnose my fracture, but to make sure I understood what the next steps were and that I felt comfortable with each step. I got two additional opinions from other surgeons who sang Dr. Glickel's praises and assured me I could do no better than him! After the surgery, his followups were always efficient and even enjoyable- which is an exceedingly rare thing. He is not only a great surgeon but a great person, and I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Glickel gave me excellent care after experiencing a severe fracture which needed surgery including plate, screws and a bone graft. It is now 8 weeks since my surgery and have excellent range of motion and the ability to do regular tasks, From my first visit everything was expedited efficiently to the day if surgery, I am filled with gratitude to Dr, Glickel for his clarity, time and expertise. “My Hero”

I suffered with elbow pain for almost 4 years, and after another surgery I still wasn't healed. I found Dr. Glickel and he spent almost 2 hours with me at my new patient appointment trying to figure out all ways that he can help. After some decisions, we came to surgery. “Best surgical experience I've ever had.”

My expectations for service and outcome were overwhelmingly exceeded. I couldn't imagine recommending another surgeon for someone requiring surgical care or evaluation for hands. “The best surgeon I ever saw not only for my wrists. Also one of the best doctors I ever dealt with.”

Dr Glickel was absolutely amazing. He always spent as much time with me as I needed. He would always call back as soon as possible and was very patient answering many of my questions. I never felt that I was rushed which can often be the case with other doctors. His knowledge and experience regarding wrist injuries was the best. He was able to give the correct diagnosis for an unusual case due to injury to my wrist. The surgery that Dr Glickel performed addressed my issue and increased significantly the ability to use my wrist in every day life. I would recommend Dr. Glickel over any other wrist surgeon.

“Perfect surgery, thorough explanation of diagnosis and my options, with no pressure”

Dr. Glickel is an excellent surgeon - the surgery itself was flawless and lead to an excellent recovery, but what I appreciated most was his thorough explanation of my diagnosis and my options for recovery, without feeling pressured. In my case, a Bennett Fracture in my thumb required surgery, but the whole process was as painless as a surgery could be! And with regular follow-ups and an excellent recommendation for physical therapy office, I felt taken care of and eventually made a full recovery.

“An exceptional experience from beginning to end”

Dr. Steven Glickel is an absolutely incredible surgeon who provided an exceptional experience from the initial diagnoses, through surgery, and in the multiple follow-up visits. After having visited multiple other doctors who had not been able to provide proper help, Dr. Steven Glickel made an accurate diagnoses at the first meeting and made sure to seek out confirmation through Ultra Sound and MRI-scans. After confirming the diagnosis, he got me an appointment for the necessary surgery right away, which he did himself to the best result I could have wished for. I felt comfortable and safe before and throughout the surgery, and I received all the information I could wish for before and after. The surgery went extremely well, and I was guided to a very helpful physical therapists afterwards. In the following months, my hand and wrist made a tremendous recovery, and I regularly met with Dr. Steven Glickel who ensured I recovered in full. I am very happy and thankful for all the help!

“Fantastic experience. Could not recommend more!”

I have arthritis that has affected my fingers. They were crooked and always made me so self conscious as I'm only in my 30s. I was nervous about the procedure to straighten them though as I'm athletic and didn't want to be out for too long. Dr Glickel was extremely knowledgeable and able to help me understand what I really needed. He also gave me a very accurate time frame of events and healing time. The whole thing was so smooth that I find myself forgetting that I even had the surgery!

After breaking my wrist at age 67, I was scared and concerned about getting back to my normal and active life. I told Dr Glickel that I wanted to be the same as I was before my fall. He recommended surgery to stabilize my wrist which was highly successful. Now 90 days later I am back to my active lifestyle and grateful for the terrific care I received. “Great Experience with a Dr who really cares”

Had an evaluation with Dr Glickel for my hand injury and found out I needed surgery to repair my fingers. My options were explained clearly, and everything from surgery, to post-op, to the follow up was in-line with the expectations laid out. I felt he took the time to listen and explain things in as much detail as I wanted. A great experience overall.

“Unmatched surgical skill and knowledge”

Dr. Glickel is one of the most sought after hand doctors in the U.S. He repaired two fractures in my right hand with excellent results and very minimal incision scars. He never pushed anything on me and always prioritized my health and well being. He is well known throughout the NYC metro as a top physician, and I am so thankful I found him!
