Dr. Atkins has been practicing in the field of eye care since 1982. He received his doctorate of optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry and has maintained licenses with the State of Michigan and also has a current DEA license, allowing him to prescribe certain medications beyond the realm of the standard optometric license. Dr. Atkins believes in treating all patients as he himself would want to be treated.
Dr. Atkins practices within the full scope of his license, prescribing eyewear, fitting contact lenses (rigid an soft); diagnoses, monitor and treats eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic patients, removes foreign bodies from the eye (metals, etc.) and treats routine medical eye issues such as allergies, dry eye, eye infections and eye irritations.
