“Wasted time and $$ and didnt tell us anything we couldnt find on Google.”
We came to Columbia Travel Clinic prior to a vacation for a consultation and to get immunized. Melissa at first seemed very eager to help and interested in our trip, encouraging us to make phone calls to our doctors for immunization records, etc. However 1hr into our consultation she suggested we may want to hurry as she charges per 15 minutes and that our consultation fee was approaching $200. We found this incredibly off-putting, especially as nothing she had told us was at all new to us as we had previously done some quick research on google. We quickly concluded the consultation and moved on to getting the shots. She assured us that we could get the shots with her or with our regular doctor, but that it probably dint matter. With her we would have to pay out of pocket but would get reimbursed by our insurance for any immunizations that would otherwise be covered by our doctor. We decided to get all the shots there to avoid making another appointment. What she neglected to mention was that most travel clinics fall out of network for regular insurance plans and because of that we would get NOTHING reimbursed unless we exceeded our deductible. I called my insurance and indeed found that Tetanus and Hep A would be 100% covered if we had gone to our regular doctor. In the end we felt overcharged and misled. Beware!
