Dr. Ching brings both heart and head to his profession and patients. He is smart, kind and enormously competent. His conservative approach to surgery supported my efforts to avoid it as long as possible (through PT and exercise). However, when it became clear that surgery was necessary, he executed the correction of my scoliosis (2 surgeries) with results that yielded an outcome that far exceeded my expectations. He is masterful.

“I was given the best care/treatment possible for my spine.”

Consultations with Dr.Ching were honest and his assessment of my condition was right on target - we discussed different non-surgical/surgical options and upon deciding on surgery, the procedure most likely to have the best results. I am at almost 2 months in my recovery from major spinal fusion surgery - I am walking with a walker and the pain issues I have had for years with my lower back and left leg are gone.

He and his office were more than helpful in my experiences with them. I never found that my questions went unanswered. I was not talked down to, like I have been with other specialists. I felt like a full team member in my care. When my significant other or a close friend came in with me he even listened to them and gave respectful and informational answers that helped us all. He will be my specialist for this kind of thing from now onward, should I need anything. I need him cloned to be my PCP!!!

“Dr. Ching gives me the help I need make progress during my recovery.”

Dr. Ching operated on my herniated disc. The surgery was successful, but recovery from the nerve damage has taken longer than expected. Although Dr. Ching can't "fix me" he is helping me get the appropriate treatment so I can continue to make progress. Too many surgeons would lose interest in a patient like me because they can't personally do anything, so it is refreshing to work with someone who cares about my long term progress.

“Dr Alex Ching & his entire team and staff have been awesome”

Dr. Ching did a fantastic job w. a difficult spinal surgery involving 3 disc regions (microdiscectomy laminenectomy) & small separate fusion. No screws! The new bone is filling in from fragments in a small plastic cage. I can now function and even hike again. Importantly also, the reception group including Deb and medical assistants and PAs from Michelle to Nicole & Joel are also top notch & communicate well . Ching himself takes time to share exactly what he is doing and why! He also will tell you if he can't do something that will improve your health. Hats off to you all & many thanks. <:)

“I have a pain free life again. Absolutely confident in Dr Ching.”

On my initial visit with Dr Ching, I immediately felt like I was going to receive the best medical care available to me regarding significant progressive spine deformity. I appreciated Dr. Ching's conservative and calculated approach to addressing my significant scoliosis which included unwillingness to do surgery on me until he was confident that I was at a proper weight an nutritionally sound to have a successful outcome to a surgery. He chose to do a more limited surgery that he was confident would provide me relief from significant and debilitating pain. This surgery, for the time being, has provided with a return to a "normal" life and being able to enjoy almost everything that is important to my happiness and well-being without any sense of restriction. I absolutely could not have had a better medical care experience with such a disability and abnormality in my spine. I have absolute total and complete confidence in Dr Ching and his staff regarding spine issues.

I am amazed at how busy he is but still takes the time to listen and explain everything. The fear I had was bad, but once he explained how the surgery works. I felt so much better and was able to follow through with it. I cant say it was easy it hurt real bad and I am still recovering but he is positive about my results and so am I. I cant wait to be completely healed. The amazing part is I thought there was nothing I could do, that maybe it was my imagination.. I feel like he has completely changed my life. Had surgery on L5 S1 and L4 L5 with no pain after surgery. Recovery was amazing. Started playing golf three months after surgery with little back issues only slight ache due to not playing for a length of time. Great facility and people are wonderful. “Dr Ching's fusion surgery skills have changed my life”

Dr Ching took a look at my x-rays done by my Dr. for leg pain and said "I can help you with that. I can take care of that." He was so very right! Leg pain was gone right after surgery. His team was helpful in preparing me for all I did and all the care I needed to take in making it all work afterwards. My back surgery experience was really good!
I also must say that my husband saw Dr Ching for back pain during the COVID Pandemic. Dr. Ching's concern for the pain and loss of weight, lead him to stearnly suggest my husband needed lab work-ups as well. He believed something else was going on. It was hard during those days to get Outpatient help. At surgery day, my husband's labs were still questionable, but Dr Ching elected to do the surgery, knowing he could help him, but more importantly find him Inpatient care and a Hospitalist that found answers. I am forever grateful to Dr Ching for his brilliance in getting us that help. His surgery skills match his knowledge and wisdom.

Experienced a major sciatic event 2 years ago. PA Joel Horst guided me to recovery of symptoms. However, sciatic pain continued directly related to bending and twisting motions, pain that stopped me in my tracks. Finally, decided to explore a permanent remedy. Surgery was very controversial as talked to friends, but eventually Coflex was recommended. Procedure seemed reasonable and not too invasive. So, 12/16/20 I had the surgery. I'm now at 3 months past and srill feeling mild ache in lower back and slight pain with certain movements.

“Changed my life for the better”

I had a 3 level fusion at OHSU in 2010, the screws were tearing out and there was a non union at L5-S1 and was in terrible pain, truly terrible.

Dr. Ching did a revision surgery on the fusion and he literally saved my life. My pain has decreased roughly 90%, which is way above normal compared to statistics outlined on the internet.

He is caring, a great listener and is willing to do anything to help his patients. I'm so grateful for the work he did and what he does for not only me but others that have suffered through poor surgeries.

He is the best and his staff always did whatever was needed.

Dr, Ching was through in diagnosing my problem, using MRI and watching how I walked and what strength I had lost in my right leg. He explained how surgery would help me. AT first I thought he was a little bit brusque and I wasn't sure if I'd get the care I needed. But I was desperate from the long period of extreme pain and they had an opening. I took a chance.
