For the past 5 years I served and continue to serve as the sole lead mental health therapist for a dually-diagnosed residential and out-patient program treating those afflicted with both (at least one) serious mental health condition(s) & active poly-substance abuse in all stages of recovery. My clients at this out-patient & residential site frequently have a long-standing history of struggling with severe trauma, complex trauma, PTSD, abuse including incest and sexual assault, early childhood wounding, narcissistic abuse by caretakers and/or partners, chronic pain & illness(es), episodes of chronic homelessness or occupational difficulties, and self-harming behaviors such as substance abuse, alcoholism, cutting, eating disorders, obsessive gambling or sex addictions. Residents of the program meet the government descriptions of HUD.
