Had I known how much better I would have felt after being treated for my TMJ symptoms, I would have seek treatment a lot sooner. I came into Dr Urbanek's office at the recommendation of my ENT after I mentioned constant ear pain that had gotten so bad that I found myself on antibiotics a couple months in a row. The pain even went into my jaw and kept me up at night as I struggled to find a comfortable position to fall asleep in. In his office, Dr Urbanek asked me a series of questions related to symptoms I had experienced for pretty much my entire life. Headaches, ear pain, jaw pain, numbness and tingling in my arm, even neck pain. At times, I felt like I was under water which would send me into a panic. It started a few years ago. My jaw would pop when I would chew and, outside of being uncomfortable sounding, it was not that big a deal. However, in the past year, it started to get worse. And by worse, I mean, I would be in the middle of a lunch or dinner event with clients or friends and my jaw would start to lock open. I would have to force my jaw back in to place which was not only painful, it was also embarrassing. My jaw started to hurt all the time, especially during a meal but even when I was in the middle of a conversation. I finally saw my doctor about it who recommended me to Dr. Urbanek. My initial visit and continued care have been great. We worked through my list of symptoms and he explained that it was classic TMJ. And by worse, I mean, I would be in the middle of a lunch or dinner event with clients or friends and my jaw would start to lock open. I would have to force my jaw back in to place which was not only painful, it was also embarrassing. My jaw started to hurt all the time, especially during a meal but even when I was in the middle of a conversation. I finally saw my doctor about it who recommended me to Dr. Urbanek.
My initial visit and continued care have been great. We worked through my list of symptoms and he explained that it was classic TMJ. He also let me know I was not a candidate for surgery which I appreciated. We talked through options and I went into the program.
I felt a difference in my condition in just a matter of days. I received my mouth guard on a Monday. By Wednesday, I was already feeling relief from the jaw popping and staying locked in position. The next week was even better. By the time of my 4 week visit, I was already 90% better. My teeth were much better aligned and I was not in pain while talking or eating.

I'm in my mid 50's and I've had significant jaw pain for 20+ years! I've used many different kinds of night guards, to prevent teeth grinding, which is the major cause of my jaw pain. None of them worked very well. I usually ended up grinding down the guard! I would wake with extreme headaches. My jaw popping and pain was so bad I resigned myself to the fact I would not be able to chew hard foods again. So I didn't. But when the ear ringing started, I couldn't ignore it any longer. Hi, I am a Scuba Instructor in Kauai and I was having major issues with serious pain in my ears and jaw while I was diving and it was taking the fun out of diving. I would also retain a lot of fluid behind my eardrum which would cause me equalization problems and a lot of ear infections. I told my dentist that I was having severe jaw pain especially when I ate or opened my mouth wide. He told me to visit Dr. Urbanek. When i received the splint I did not think that it would help. After the first 6 weeks I noticed 50% of my pain was gone. I thought that I would still just have the little bit of pain left. One day it dawned on me that I had not had any jaw pain in over 2 months. I was skeptical but I hate to think what my jaw pain would be like if I had not tried the splint.
